Kristen de Marco
Executive Director  | Equine Specialist

Kristen de Marco is the Executive Director at Gateway HorseWorks, a nonprofit organization which incorporates horses for the mental health treatment of people.  She founded the organization in response to the need for more equitable and accessible mental health services in our community in 2015. She has pioneered programs with government agencies, school districts, and community organizations with a focus on serving children and adults who are impacted by the justice system, Veterans, children receiving emotional support in school, people recovering from addiction, human trafficking survivors, and people experiencing grief & bereavement.  She is a published author in Advances in Social Work, and her work has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and NPR's Weekend Edition. In 2022, Healing in the Open, a documentary film about Gateway HorseWorks, debuted at film festivals across the nation. In addition to her duties at Gateway HorseWorks, she owns and operates WorkHorse, an equine-assisted professional development company, serving the organizational needs of corporate teams. Kristen received her Bachelor's Degree from Villanova University in Communication Arts and Psychology, and her Equine Specialist Certification from Eagala.
