Anna Fitzugh Equine Manager, Organizational Coordinator | Consultant to Gateway HorseWorks
Anna Fitzhugh is the Equine Manager and Organizational Coordinator for Gateway HorseWorks. Throughout her life, Anna has held an immense love for horses and the community surrounding them. Often finding that the barn was the best place to externally process her own conflicts. Anna’s passion for horses led her to ride competitively at the upper levels of Eventing, work for Olympic gold medalists, teach people of all ages about horses, and hold leadership roles in the equestrian community. After spending many years immersed in the horse world and with her time in college coming to an end, Anna felt a desire to help the world in a different way. Following graduation from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Anna spent the summer as an intern in Berlin, Germany. In Berlin, Anna worked at Moabit Hilft, an organization dedicated to assisting refugees in the complicated resettlement process. While at Moabit Hilft, Anna recognized the ways that access to mental health services were restricted to certain communities Upon returning to the States, she searched for ways that horses could help underrepresented populations. Anna then discovered Gateway HorseWorks and feels it is the perfect combination of the things she cares about: mental health, horses, and advocating for equity.
