Sophie Gordon is the owner of Cherokee Stable in Northwest Philadelphia which she operates as a semi-retirement barn. She has been riding horses on and off since she was a child and recently came back to riding after living abroad. Previously, Sophie worked in humanitarian landmine clearance for The HALO Trust, where she completed field officer training in Cambodia and Ukraine among other countries. She later joined the HALO Afghanistan program in Kabul where she served as a Donor Management Officer responsible for grant writing with a specific focus on the technical aspects of demining. She subsequently transitioned to the role of Abandoned Improvised Mine (AIM) Clearance Officer responsible for supporting the head of the AIM division in Afghanistan and developing standard operating procedures for AIM clearance and disposal.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, she currently lives in the city’s Mount Airy neighborhood with her husband and rescue chihuahua mix. Her hobbies include hiking in the Wissahickon and practicing eventing with her patient mare Peanut.
